I was as floored as anyone when I first read the press release squeezed out of Allen's press orifice. (Interestingly, it's not on his website - you can only find it on Drudge.) But after reading the quotes and then thereisnospoon's
spot-on response, I got to thinking - why now? And why would they try to peddle this stuff for a Friday news cycle when very few people watch the evening news or read the Saturday paper?
Another thing nagged at me. First, except for that first quote, the others weren't anything you wouldn't expect in any number of hard-boiled novels. So why is the press release title "The Author's Disturbing Writings Show a Continued Pattern of Demeaning Women" when the first, and most shocking quote has nothing to do with women? And why devote two of the "narrative" sentences up front to Webb's supposed attitudes about women?
Then it it hit me - the Green Party Candidate. Glenda Gail Parker is dropping out and may endorse Allen or Webb. This is an attempt to "woo" her away from the other side. When Allen's accused of spitting tobaccy juice on women's shoes and his other boorsih behavior, he's got to try to throw it back at Webb. Parker is a strong woman (former Air Force Officer, businesswomen, etc), so spinning this as a pattern of "demeaning women." is designed to sway her.
As Parker is considering these two candidates, will her campaign buy this bunk? Let's contact Glenda and urge her to support her fellow veteran, and let her know what a pig Allen really is. She could even stand side by side with Webb -- two strong military people -- to slam this ridiculous story back in Allen's face.
